Akustische Kameras ermöglichen es dem Benutzer, verschiedene Schallquellen mit unterschiedlichen Frequenzen und Quellstärken zu finden und zu visualisieren. Die Auflösung und die Fähigkeit, eng beieinander liegende Schallquellen mit niedrigeren Frequenzen aufzulösen, hängt hauptsächlich von der Gesamtgröße und der Anzahl der Mikrofone des verwendeten Geräts ab. Das Norsonic Hextile Nor848 ist ein modulbasierter Ansatz für diese Aufgabe, der dem Benutzer sowohl Mobilität als auch eine hohe Auflösung für eine breite Palette von Messsituationen bietet. Die Array-Schale basiert auf der Form eines Sechsecks, was ihr sowohl ihren Namen als auch die Möglichkeit gibt, mehrere Kacheln zu größeren Systemen zu kombinieren. Ein weiteres Alleinstellungsmerkmal ist das extrem leistungsstarke virtuelle Mikrofon. Bewegt man die Maus durch das Bild, so können gezielt einzelne Schallquellen angehört werden.
